#HOTISSHU is our way of updating you guys on what kind of IsSHUE (issue) in life that we might heard or saw or even experienced it ourselves. For example, the pandemic life that we have been living for more than a year. The COVID 19 virus continuously spreading and took lives of millions of people across the globe. It had opened our eyes that life is fragile, and things can turn 180˚ instantly. Some people lose their job and some other are struggling to make ends meet. Even so, for some people before the pandemic occurs, things are already hard as it is. The situation is not only draining our energy physically, but also tiring us mentally.
As things gradually lighten up, where now people are starting to get vaccinated, countries began to apply designated travel bubbles, and people are now starting to work from office like they used to. ISSHU is trying to reminisce the good and bad times we've had in our previous and/or even our current workplace. Let us hear your experiences; Are you still experiencing it? Whom should you talk to? Did you help someone who is in trouble? Is it better to just be quiet or is it okay to say the things that you want to say to anyone, anywhere and anytime?
The question could go on and on, and we forgot about one very important fundamental point, that is consequences. When we talk about working in the office, we are looking at a web where everyone is somehow connected to one another. What one says or do, positively or negatively, could directly or indirectly affect others. In other words, workplace is a place for you to work, giving great ideas so the business can keep developing. Also, it could positively be a place for you to learn something new, or maybe to meet new friends and so on.
As we want to raise awareness regarding the matters, we have done several poll on our Instagram page about what kind of IsSHUES that people are experiencing, and what kind of actions they would do to survive in their workplace. Here's the result:

Based on the poll result, people are admitting that they are having serious IsSHUES at their workplace. It seems like they are stuck in an oblivious situation with a catastrophic dynamic. Keep in mind, that mental health is important to keep one sane and stay on track. How can you be productive when you are under a lot of stress? Or when you are sick physically, you obviously need to stop and rest immediately. There's always a limit in everything. People are not robot, even robots have their limit.
There are several tweets that might have been encountered by you or maybe not. It said "Masih bisa bangun kan?" "Masih bisa makan kan?" "Masih bisa naik motor?" "Masih bisa kerja dong?" Those tweets probably sound familiar to some of you, as it was oftentimes used as a meme on social media. But when you heard it in your workplace, it is totally a different story. A viral case on Twitter once debating about employee’s sick permit, that was underestimated as a mere excuse from the employee and is considered to be detrimental to the company. Many says, the permit could be a reason or as the employee’s way for them to rest physically and mentally at home, before they are reaching the point of burn-out, or worse, depression.
In fact, when it comes to work, like any other activities in life, could be dangerous, if it being practiced excessively. Gathered from HelloSehat and WebMD, there are four mental problems that are prone to arise among workers, two of which are mental disorders and anxiety problems. In addition, research in the UK conducted since 1991 showed that cases of major depression were found in workers who often worked overtime.
Based on ground research, it suggested that to manifest a healthy working environment, employers and employees must work hand in hand to meet balance in work and personal life. For instance, invest career-advance in time-management, and invest mental health through positive activities outside of work, such as exercising or as simple as taking time for oneself.
To conclude, one of the reasons why ISSHU raised the theme of mental health in the workplace was to raise awareness about the issue. The importance of awareness about mental health can no longer be ignored. There are too many bad examples of neglectful stress management that lead to unwanted consequences. We all need to spread awareness and spread positive energy wherever we are. In this case at workplace. Smile, say hello and ask your colleagues how they are doing. Practice “listen more than you talk”. We never know, because everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Always be kind.
